Privacy, in plain sugar-free language

This journal collects almost nothing, and we would like to explain exactly what “almost nothing” means. Below is the full inventory of what exists in your browser, what reaches us by email, and the choices you keep.

Last revised March 12, 2026 Document 01 of 04 Asheville, North Carolina

1. Who we are

Candi & Clove is a small, independent confection atelier and flavor journal based at 214 River Arts Lane, Asheville, North Carolina 28801, United States. This website is an editorial publication: it describes our flavors, techniques and tasting notes. We do not operate an online shop, a checkout, or a customer account system on this site.

For anything in this notice, you can write to us at atelier.candiandclove@gmail.com. That address reaches the two people who run the atelier.

2. What we collect

This is a static website. There is no form, no newsletter signup and no comment system, so there is nothing for you to type into and nothing for us to store from a submission.

Two narrow categories of information can exist:

  • Information you send us directly. If you email us, we see your email address and whatever you choose to write. We keep that correspondence only as long as it is useful for answering you and for our editorial records.
  • A single local preference. When you answer the cookie notice, your choice is saved in your own browser's local storage. That value never travels to us and we cannot read it.

Our hosting environment may keep ordinary technical logs (for example, the pages requested and the time of the request) for security and reliability purposes. We do not use those logs to build profiles of visitors.

3. Local storage & cookies

We use one item of browser storage and no advertising cookies. Here is the complete list, which is short enough to memorise:

NameTypePurposeLifetime
candiCloveConsentLocal storageRemembers whether you accepted or declined the cookie notice so the banner does not reappear on every visit.Until you clear your browser data

That is the whole inventory. We do not set analytics cookies, advertising cookies, social media pixels, or cross-site identifiers.

Want to change your mind? You can clear the stored preference at any time with the button below, or by clearing site data in your browser settings.

No action taken yet.

4. What we never do

  • We do not run third-party analytics or heat-mapping scripts.
  • We do not embed advertising networks or retargeting pixels.
  • We do not sell, rent, trade or barter any personal information.
  • We do not ask for payment details, government identifiers or account passwords, and we would never ask for them by email.
  • We do not use fingerprinting techniques, canvas probing or device-graph matching.

5. Third-party services

This site loads every stylesheet, script, font and illustration from its own files. There are no content delivery networks, no embedded video players, no social plugins and no external font services involved. The typefaces you see are system fonts already present on your device.

If you choose to email us, your message is handled by your email provider and ours. Their own privacy terms apply to that exchange.

6. How long we keep things

Email correspondence is kept while a conversation is active and for up to twenty-four months afterwards, so that we can remember context for corrections or follow-up questions. Hosting logs are typically retained for a short operational window measured in days, then discarded.

7. Your choices

  • You can dismiss the cookie notice either by accepting or declining; both are treated as a valid answer and both stop the banner.
  • You can delete the stored preference whenever you like.
  • You can browse with cookies and local storage blocked entirely. The journal pages will continue to work; only the banner will return each visit.
  • You can ask us to delete an email conversation at any time.

8. Children's privacy

Our articles about candy and sugar craft are written for a general adult readership and are not directed at children under thirteen. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If a young reader emails us, a parent or guardian can ask us to remove that exchange and we will do so promptly.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access to the personal information we hold about you, to request correction or deletion, to object to certain processing, or to ask for a copy of your data. Because we hold almost nothing, most requests resolve in a single reply.

To make a request, email atelier.candiandclove@gmail.com with the subject line "Privacy request". We aim to respond within thirty days. We will never ask you for a fee or for identity documents beyond what is genuinely needed to match your message to our records.

10. Changes to this notice

If our practices change — for example, if we ever added a newsletter — this page would be revised first and the revision date at the top would change. We keep previous wording in our editorial archive so that changes can be reviewed.
